  • Thank you! I had just come off a week of following Tori when she sang this, and totally wasn't expecting this.

  • Heh, I was at the 2 london shows - to hear this the day after 2 nights of Tori was an unexpected treat!

  • I like Amanda Palmer alot but it's kind of awkward when you take someone else's song about their personal account of being raped

  • i've haven't been sure how i feel about amanda's music since she posted a dresden dolls blog about how she couldn't get into Tori (to be fair it was just an opinion, also around the time of The Beekeeper, but the tone of the blog was somewhat disrespectful towards Tori). now that she's dating Neil Gaiman, she warms to her...and covers this song? i don't like it. i don't think amanda's voice is suited to it either. she belts things, and tori's soft voice created half of this song.

  • @SapphireJesse08 Same. I love them both. I can understand how Tori fans may thing covering this is insensitive, but at the same time, I can understand how the song can apply to Amanda's life to. Can't we all just get along? :D

  • Amanda has stated that she was also raped when she was younger so I'm sure she totally feels this song. I am a fan of both Tori and Amanda and arguing why or who's better seems like a fucking waste of time for me. They are pretty different and thank fuck for that. Like Tori said AND Amanda seconded YEARS AGO ON HER BLOG WHEN SHE HADN'T MET NEIL GAIMAN, "how sad it is that female musicians and singers feel the need to compete so fiercely with each other, as if there were only room for so many."

  • @Tarnov What about those poor souls who are fans of both? :( WHERE WILL WE BE? It will be brother against brother, like the Civil War... xD

  • Gorgeous.

  • I'm not a fan of Tori Amos, so maybe that's the reason I don't get the bunch of comments here but I think most of us, Amanda Fucking Palmer's fans, embrace art and expression in all of its forms. This gave me chills and I think it was coming from an honest place.Isn't that what matters about art? transmitting/ evoking/provoking emotion?

  • So go after everyone who sings Strange Fruit.. After all that was Billie's vocalizing about seeing people hanging from trees when she was a child... Go after every other person on youtube for singing this as well...Songs are meant to be sung..

  • ..she is going to care that someone is singing it in a respectful undiluted way.

  • How is it wrong to cover a song? I understand both arguments at least to some extent but music is a tool that everyone is allowed to use. I don't know Amanda Palmer's view of Tori but if you forget about every petty thing it really seems like her reasons are pure in covering this song. She is respectful and isn't mocking the experience of rape she seems to be expressing it thru her voice and that's what matters. Tori freely shared this song she didn't keep it to herself and I don't think...

  • I much prefer Amanda Palmer's version - Amos has a sort of tremulous, weedy thing going on with her voice that irritates me sometimes, and Amanda Palmer's voice is so strong, it conveys a strength gained after making it through such an experience.
