what kind of idiot would want to stop nukes, its better to not need them and have them than need them and not have them, because at the end of the day not everyones druged up hippys like you guys, there are mad men out there that have this technology, thats why we have them, in the event of war can make upto 4000 of the things operational in one year!, you didnt think they threw them away did you, there just dormant, the 250 the uk has are operational but over 1000 are basically offline

I am curious, do those who share the CND's sentiments with regards to nuclear disarmament seriously think that, as a serious world power, the UK could confidently stand alongside Russia, the USA, France and China without a functional strategic nuclear force? The CND, nor the government, can see into the future and predict what threats may establish themselves; to rid ourselves of a key element of our military force, based on an ill-informed and ignorant public opinion, would be sheer madness.

So which films does the CND like the most: Threads(1984), War Game(1965), 'Wind Blows'(1986), or Day After(1983)

no i heard it from someone, but maybe they did.

Points taken, I'll back down a bit.
However, back in the 80's it would've been real hard, next to impossible, to prove clandestine KGB motives, especially the strength they had at the time.
-Correct if I'm wrong, 3/4 of your organization were Labor Party members- not the moderate kind, but the old school "Red Flag" singing kind; collaboration would've been most feasible.

I'm not done yet: Do you ACTUALLY think Russia is gonna disarm!!??? Without their nuke force, they have NO STATUS on the world stage. Their conventional army is a generation and a half behind comparitive NATO forces. The much smaller UK would be comparitively more powerful economically and militarily if this fantasy happened and Russia knows it. Nukes make horrendous military weapons and amazing poiltical ones.

Ooooh... you got me!
That postualtion reeks of relativism. In foreign poilcy, the players can be divided up into children and adults. A child does not get to have a car just because the adult has one.
Israel knows its outnumbered 14:1 by its sworn enemy; it's neighbors would not give em the same luxury.
75% of my country's weapons are aimed at Russian targets, both of us know the rules though Russia is a bit sheisty; The "Mideast" players don't want to play fair.
Still not done: ADMIT YOU RECEIVED COMMUNIST-BACKED SUPPORT FOR YOUR OBSTREPEROUSLY ADOLESENT NUCLEAR FREEZE MARCHES DURING THE EARLY 80's
boobtuber06 3 years ago
a) The Nuclear Freeze initiative was an independent campaign not part of CND
b) CND's leader in the 80s, Bruce Kent offered a cash prize to anyone who could prove CND received any funding from the Eastern Bloc. No one ever tried to claim it.
Democratic single-issue pressure groups don't vet members' broader views but encourage participation from all sections of society. A survey of CND members in 1985 found that 0.3% were Communist Party members.
This is a really weak & irrelevant argument

Did you hear the news!???
CND has just changed their title.
Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament is now Collection of Naive Dissidents.
MAD works- bring on the D5s!

If, as you say 'MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) works', then you'd presumably be in favour of more countries developing nuclear weapons - given that under the logic of MAD, this would lead to a more stable situation. No one would risk any conventional war, in case it resulted in mutual annihilation. Would you perhaps want this tried out in the Middle East, where Israel already has nuclear weapons?

Thank you for your constructive and well argued points. A significant contribution to the debate, I'm sure we can all agree.
