You do understand that just because the ref blows the whistle, you still cannot run up and kick the ball away when it's a free kick to the opposition. Whether the ref blew the whistle is nothing to do with it! So he quite obviously didn't understand the rules. Even the brazillian standing in front of the wall and being unashamedly shoved aside are comical.

To be fair, I've watched this video SO many times, and no matter what the various stories say, you can see the player signalling to the ref as if to say "I thought you blew the whistle". Stories of him not understanding the rules, having a break down etc.. capture the imagination far more than the most obvious explanation I guess...
