Two German guys on a little Christmas expedition in Taiwan's high mountains. Starting at Yakou, 2722m altitude. Climbing up to more than 3400m above sealevel within three days. Camping at temperatures below zero. And of course there were also the magnitude 7 earthquakes that rocked Taiwan on the evening of December 26. All in all an exciting and exhausting adventure, although we didn't actually reach our planned destination: JiaMing Lake.

  • The guys in the photos belong to a traveller group. They only went up the first few hundred meters with us, then returned to their cars. The rest of the way we continued with the two of us and several animals we met. ;)

  • Officially you need to register at the Siangyang Police station before you go up there. It costs 10NT$. But we didn't know about this before we went up. And we took the Yakou entrance, right next to the Guanshan tunnel, so it's about 5km down to the Police station. Anyway I would not suggest anyone but "serious jungle fighters" to take the same way. Better start at the Singyang entrance to reach Lake JiaMing. Should be a nice Two-day-trip with two shelters on the way.
