Great video, it was not Bowie's first appearance on tv (that was with the protest group against discrimination of long-haired people!) but it's surely the first time he sings. He still looks so ordinary but he's so relaxed and it's so professional. And exactly the tune for that year when the first steps on the moon were made. The BBC started every broadcast with Bowie's Space Oddity and thats why he got famous. This week I still saw this song used as tune for new space trips. It's also my first

@Hacker73 Now I recall that English TV used the PAL standard instead of the North America NTSC. I don't know a lot about PAL beyond it's frame rate and number of lines per frame but do know it renders color better. The French took color further with SECAM. Perhaps English TV studios simply used better audio equipment such as the Struder reel to reel tape recorder. When you watch The Beatles All You Need Is Love it can be seen there is a reel to reel machine in the foreground.
