@Lovebug8779 I lost 5 favorite characters due to terrible storyline exits, so I know a good one when I see it, and Matt's exit, as hard as it is, is a great example of great storytelling and a grasp of character integrity, and it's definitely leagues above the other shows which threw out characters like trash just for kicks. :)
@MinionBooBoo True, I understand that a plot may not always go the way I want it to, but that ultimately what is important is maintaining the integrity of the character and the storytelling process. Unfortunately, I know of a show that failed to do that for one of my favorite actors and I felt insulted as a viewer, so I do get your point.
@Lovebug8779 I am very attached to this character as well, he's my favorite since even before the show started, I got into this because of Jamie and Freema, but I've always said that if a character has to leave, I can deal with it as long as it's an exit true to the character's core and gives meaningful and a proper tribute. Matt's death was the perfect example of how to exit a character. :)
@MinionBooBoo I can definitely understand your point of view. Matt certainly was a hero at his core. I loved the way he supported Alesha after she was raped. So you make a really good point. I guess I'm just really attached to the character and it's hard for me to embrace the finality of his death.
@Lovebug8779 Personally I prefer this way, Matt died doing his job and being a hero, it's the kind of exit that I would ask for. Sure it might take away his possible return, but any other exit by injury or job change or time off would just cheapen the character's value and core. Matt loved this job and it was better he died saving a child's life than anything else. He lived for the job and died for the job, it's a fitting end.
@darcy3051 Sad, isn't it? They should have found a better way to write him off the show. That way, there would be the possibility of Matt Devlin returning in the future.
The new detective is a kick ass. I want him.
