The oil companies are drilling in ultra deep water with all dangers that this brings, because they have been banned from drilling in more accessible places by government force.

Moreover the government created fiction of 'the corporation', forms a semi permeable membrane that lets profits through to the owners, but shields them from liabilities. This greatly promotes irresponsible behavior. Off course all researchers into the disaster are payed by BP, because your legal system is imposed.
