how did you get your sound so clear im using a little midland 1001z. do i need a better antenna?

I run a uniden pc68xl barebones with a 4 foot francis antenna. and even up in the hills in arkansas, truckers tell me that i sound loud and proud even though i might be 20 miles away from another station.

i have a cb but it is super touchy and hard to tune not sure exactly how either
