If I remember right, when they commissioned someone to design the clown doll, they asked her to make sure that its teeth were visible when it smiled. She had a problem with that at first as she'd never included the teeth in any of her previous dolls. Two heads were designed for the scene - this one and the evil one.

Little known facts about Poltergeist Director Steven Spielberg had a clown doll that spooked him as a kid which is what inspired the clown doll scene in the movie.During the filming, Steven Spielberg thought the kid was being a natual ham & told him to keep it up as the doll was strangling him until the kid's face started to turn blue & Steven yanks the doll off the kid. They said it was caused by mechinal problems, but some felt the set was cursed by evil spirits.

I'm scared of that creepy, spooky clown and would be much scarier if I have it in my bedroom sitting on the chair and watching me while I'm trying to sleep. No thanks. I rather have peace and joy, not scary night with that clown. LOL :-D
