I am from Pike County, yes we do have a prevalent drug problem but show me a place in the nation that doesn't! The answer isn't organizations, youtube videos, or politicians. The way reform occurs is good jobs (not just in mining) a sense of community spirit and an alternative. BTW good ole days means Coal Mines, moonshine or move it on down the line.
Want the drug problem to stop? Provide a descent job base where people can make more than minimum wage. Stop the war on people who need medical treatment and not criminal records. Give people some dignity and you will see things change rapidly. The problem is not drugs. It is a lack of education, prohibition, and poverty. You will never stop this problem unless you start thinking for yourselves and ignore politicians who sell asphalt, God, and upside down "family values".
this makes me really sad. my family is from phelps, but i grew up in florida. my niece still lives there and i worry about her because i know how bad the drugs are. my brother is an addict and its terrible. i'm amazed that i came onto youtube and typed in pike county and this is what i find. it makes me so sad and scared for the kids that grow up in those areas.
I grew up in Pike County and never saw how bad drugs was till I married and moved to the Phelps area. Kimper, Phelps, northern Pike is where the real problems are. Course I have not lived there in years. Was bad in the late 90's tho. Really bad. I'll never live there again for sure.
