my apologize to all i offened with my comments! I'm working on a documentary series about our people the CArib people and while searching for CArib dances i came across this video. And being a carib myself i can tell you that the dances in this video are not carib dances. They are dances created to entertain tourist which upset me. You can tell from some of the stereotypical dance moves , are you serious ,shooting a bow and arrow is a traditional dance move?MLMAO

I don't think this is authentic native dance. I think its touristic entertainment, but having said that, THANK GOD THE PEOPLE ARE ALIVE AND WELL! I am Jamaican and we have no distinct native community to speak of. Yes, many of us do have native ancestry because those who survived mingled with the Africans and ran to the hills together. So there are elements of the culture that survive in us, but not a distinct people anymore. From 500 to 3,000. The fact you live blesses my soul!

@jasdeviel I agree with you on that point, but some may not have known the true name of my people (I am part kalinago) they just knew from what they knew from school (which unfortunately is the lies told by columbus and his men) and never sought to question other wise. I was once like them until I decided to embrace my identity.

Two Corporations (manufacturing) and a holding company.
Best of luck to you with "ur" future "archaeeology" gig.
I suggest you stick to writing your dissertation on dug up middens and steer clear of interpretive shame dancing...Although I hear there's good grant money to be had promulgating cultural shame amongst the "sugjugated" victims of itoto paranakyry.

@stxrobstar Quite precious yourself, makin yourself, attempting to dish out superficial insults, but if it makes you happy keep at it. Ive no need to feel insulted because I know where I stand, what I know and have learnt. When I say 61/2 years that counts as in the field too and yes,on PHD track, I'll be done next year May. Can u say the same or anyting of the like and mean it as more than just a youtube claim & know that honestly? I doubt it. I'll end this and say: Goodluck with ur life.
-
You mean to say you are a "6 1/2" year "archaeeology" student and you don't know where your youtube country even is?
I gotta say, I see something new every day: A Bajan 6 1/2 year (PHD track?) fangirl of obscure Asian boy bands (not from Bhutan) who cruises Youtube Carib videos with her paper thin skin and a BS level knack for trying to shame and insult people who are proud of their ancestry into feeling "sugjugated"...By what they choose to call themselves.
Precious.

@stxrobstar I can throw that right back at you, just cause you say its so doesnt mean its so. I see lots of people claiming to be caribs on videos like these too. & why on earth would I put my real info on youtube? Bhutan? I dont even where da heck that is lmao, I just chose randomly. Youtube is basically a place where I fangirl, mostly, as you may have seen from my playlists. And to answer your question none really, but there are traces of the Taino along our coastlines.

Bajan? Hardly.
Nice try (Naduah?).
Your page says you're from Bhutan...And your command over logic is as stunted as your apparent integrity.
Just because you say something is so doesn't make it so.
Keep on trying though...This is sorta fun.
BTW the Caribs (Island or otherwise) arrived in the Carib-bean from South America long before the Africans were a mote in the eye of European slave traders. Do tell, how many Caribs were in Barbados when the Europeans discovered it?
-
@stxrobstar Ignorance is bliss isnt it? Well you continue on calling yourself ''Carib'' then. Eating pig and broken breadfruit? Almost all caribbean people do that, so yes, I have, as a Bajan. As I said before, the way you speak its as if you dont understand that all ''caribs'' are migrated. They had/still have an african name before the dub of 'Carib'. Those Island caribs in the lesser antilles, just where did you think they came from? The sky?
-
Mature? You really are a piece of work.
It was you who graced people of Carib ancestry with:
"Carib is an extremely insulting detonation that the Europeans labelled these people as...The name translates as stupid, flesh eating cannibals, inferior to whites, lower than dogs. Jeez ."
I'm of Carib descent & not insulted or ashamed in the least despite your BS call that I should be so.
I've eaten pig & broken breadfruit with many other proud Caribs. Have you?
-
@stxrobstar How mature of you lol, anyone could see that I was just typing fast, but whatever. And I have gotten there. Particularly learnt in the genres of history and archaeology, the higher and longer you go in the learning field the more primary knowledge is tweeked and nipped here and there, until it turns a complete 360. I also said ''amongst others'' when I mentioned the Mandinkas, the way you speak its as if you dont understand that all branches of ''caribs'' are migrated.
*__* All you people commenting saying how your part 'Carib' should feel damn well ashamed. The name is not freaking 'Carib' it is KALINAGO. Carib is an extremely insulting detonation that the Europeans labelled these people as. After the Europeans realised they couldnt force the Kalinago to submit the dubbed them 'Caribs'. The name translates as stupid, flesh eating cannibals, inferior to whites, lower than dogs. Jeez . At least take the time learn about the culture before you claim it. (-__-')
