Dan Pope's 5 pm Weathercast for Friday April 23rd 2010. Heavy rain and Mountain snow hit the Wasatch Front this morning. Reports of 6 to 11 inches of new snow in the Uinta Mountains and about 4 inches near Alta. In the valleys Springville and Spanish Fork both recorded over 1/2 inch with 1/3 to 1/2 inch noted in eastern Salt Lake and Davis Counties. This storm is quickly moving eastward, and in its wake, high pressure and a pleasant Saturday is on tap for the Wasatch Front. A weak "brush by" weather system early Sunday will bring partly cloudy skies and about 2 to 3 degrees of cooling, but overall highs will be in the low and mid 60's through the weekend. Monday and Tuesday will be much warmer from the upper 60's to the mid 70's with gusty southerly winds hitting on Tuesday ahead of a Pacific storm that will cause temperatures to drop again and will also bring the threat for valley rain and snow Wednesday, Thursday and Friday...and possibly into the upcoming weekend. I have some great photography of lightning from the storm and of Southern Utah's landscape, as well as some rainfall totals specific to the Wasatch Front in this weathercast.
