Most of the opinions about how government should work are retained by conservatives which is why they call them 'conservatives' while liberals get most of their ideas from progressives which came right out of marxist thinking. Why modern liberals use the term liberals for themselves is elusive because I haven't seen them do anything liberal at all. Most conservatives and libertarians are 'liberal' in the classical sense which was founded on limited govt, property rights, and free enterprise.

@timbosforporn : I agree with you about the oddity of terminology in America. Liberal Democrats anywhere else would be center right. However, not all leftists take their philospphy from Marx. There is a large number of individuals who have contributed greatly to leftist thought, many predating Marx and Engels. Socialism predates Marx as a matter of fact.

Nope the constitution is a restriction against government and the states then create their own laws.... remember checks and balances.... Man the government schools did a great job indoctrinating you.. don't do any individual research ok.

It polices, regulates, provides social services, ambulances, and many other things. The government SHOULD stop killing people, but what are you going to do about it? Overthrow the rule of law? @ninjapirate0507 the fed ceates money and loans to the government which has to be paid back with interest. you, the tax payer, pay this loan+interest back through your taxes. the constitution says the federal government should be creating currency but instead it was handed over to a private institution,the fed, under the federal reserve act in 1913. this is the case in all G nations. a scam creating our massive debts. OC was right. do u understand how crooked fractional reserve banking is?
