PLATO Learning Reader Support

Over the last 20 years, the student population in America's classrooms has become more diverse. According to the U.S. National Center for Education Statistics, about 3.8 million students studied English as a second language (ESL) during the 2003--2004 school year. In many cases, students speak English to some degree but are not proficient at reading and writing English.
