As the cost of a college degree soars, you might need a "Plan B" to find a good job. Your options depend on how much experience you gain and how hard you're willing to work.

To complete this How-To you will need:

An employment counselor
A targeted resume
Interviewing skills
Personal contacts
An apprenticeship
Certification
Networking skills (optional)

Step 1: Find an employment counselor

Determine your goals and learn about the market with the help of an employment counselor. Be willing to start at the bottom.

Step 2: Research professions

Research job openings and focus on advertised requirements. Create a resume listing your accomplishments and qualities that match what employers want.

Step 3: Request informational interviews

Request informational interviews to get known and learn what is expected to be successful in their field. Ask your friends for contacts they might have.

Tip: Networking is a great way to get a job.

Step 4: Apprentice yourself

Apprentice yourself to a tradesman, working for low wages or for free to learn skills in a field, and earn the trust that leads to referrals when opportunity knocks.

Tip: Attitude is critical. Have a strong work ethic.

Step 5: Work your way up

Choose industries that will allow you to work your way into management, such as mining, manufacturing, sales, construction, and transportation.

Step 6: Get certified

Take certification courses to be licensed in a field where you can later rise into management based on work performance and experience.

  • Dammit. It sucks that nowadays you need a college degree to have a career in practically any field. I remember when all you needed was just a hs diploma & some training & you could have a career in no time :/

  • you don't need a degree to have knowledge. That's just obvious.

  • good look

  • Its a system designed for the preppie middle class.

  • Yeah its pretty ridiculous considering most of these jobs will not even require skills that you can't learn on the job in a short period of time. It's pretty ridiculous when sales jobs are requiring a Bachelors Degree. This system is requiring us to go further into debt by basically paying 60,000 dollars for a Bachelors Degree which doesn't add up to dog shit in today's economy. It's a piece of paper that might get you a job.

  • You need a degree to work at McDonalds these days....

  • lmao i fucked up college so bad and my parents think im doing so good

  • A Bachelors is now the bare minimum, and even that barely gets you in the door.

  • The Truth Revealed..

GOOGLE this - ( RICH MEN AND OVERPAID )

  • @JeanieBaby24 college*

  • The opposite it true these days, a bachelors degree is the new HS diploma. Majority of employers don't even hire new college grads anymore, hopefully that will change in the future.

  • And another thing: if some bastard tells you that you need to go to collage and learn IS A DICKHEAD! You can learn things ANYWHERE! You can learn stuff from the internet, a friend, personal experience, and yes even television. For Example: A guy worked out in a gym for one week and he didn't loose any weight. Although he didn't give up so he went to the gym every day and within' 6 months he lost weight and he became muscular. What did we learn? you want results you have to work out consistantly.
