My build can be followed at the above site. Look for part two which is now here. If you plan on building this aircraft then I strongly suggest you join this site so you can learn all about problems that are refused to be discussed on the other site. This set of drawings are very crude and there is many errors contained in them. There is enough to build a plane with as long as you consider the drawings a guide and have a good idea of how to compromise and make some decisions for yourself.

  • What are you using for the welding..looks too good to be oxy acet. ?

  • @rodneybrat Man your right about that. I am using the tig process. In my opinion its the only way i would do this on 4130. alot of the old timers will say that oxy acet is the only way to go. truth is they are all good if done properly. done poorly they are all dangerous.

  • Darn you do good work! I am building a double too but i'm doing it because I need more experience before building something more elaborate. Why in the heck is a guy like you building one of these rather than some crazy supercub or something? How many gazillion airplanes have you built? I am impressed.

  • @buzzy1147 Hey thanks man. I have been an A&P since 1994. I don’t work aviation anymore but just want to do it for myself now. This is the first aircraft I have built completely from scratch. The DE really fit what I wanted in an aircraft. Also when it all boils down the DE is a VERY affordable airplane to build. That too is also a big factor in its choice. I also wanted something that wouldn’t take as long to build as a more elaborate aircraft for my first one.

  • @MrBullfrog92 The idea was to be able to get into the air a little quicker and have something to kick around in while I build the next bigger better aircraft. Thanks again and I’m glad you enjoy the vids.

Hey what is your serial number? mine is D-82

  • @scotsubq very cool. hope to see you on my yahoo group so we can chat about it.

  • Thanks for this! I took my first hands on flight last week and I think I have the bug. I'm a machinist/welder/carpenter/electrician who likes to build things and I think that you and I are probably much alike! I'll be following this build because I think that I might be ordering a set of plans for a double eagle. Maybe a legal eagle first? I'm not sure yet.

Thanks again! This is an awesome project and I'm right on time to see it start! Keep it up!
