An interesting and rare sight - KiwiRail EO class electric engines with a train of Ganz-Mavag EMU's heading south into Paraparaumu from Waikanae, Kapiti Coast, New Zealand, 16 Jan 2011. This was to test the new electric overhead and double tracking on this section of track which is to become operational from 20 Feb 2011. Also shows scenes of the same train heading back to Wellington just south of Paekakariki, approaching Muri station in Pukerua Bay, and coming into Plimmerton.

That is very cool how the EOs are painted in the vintage NZ rail DA class livery
Lol the EMUs probably needed the EOs in case they more than likely broke down. Clunky old POS...

haisano: Correct, the EO class locomotives were built by Toshiba Heavy Industries in 1968.

I've never seen this type of locomotive class - looks like a Japanese built type?

How many drivers were needed to drive this combination of equipment?
