Billy Joel appears on Michael Aspel's chat show in 1989. This clip is in two parts. Sadly the two songs are mimed and not live although the guitars appear to be plugged in. This show was once thought to be a rival to Michael Parkinson.

Don't be too upset, these things happen it's over twenty years ago anyway. There may have been some logistical reason why they couldn't perform live - even union problems

He is actually appearing in Brisbane Qld Australia this week on yet another concert tour, I won't be going I have seen him three times in concert over the past twenty years or so,

Thanks for posting. Lip Sync is not always the choice of the artist....perhaps it is the norm for this particular program....it saves the hassle of "live" sound problems that oftern occur on TV.

I have never seen billy joel lip sing ANYTHING

he said he is a performer and is there to perform live to his audience and not faking it.

Im sure there is a logical explanation, for example the show didnt want it live or something not his choice

@donneric you're way off. Storm Front is one of his weakest. Now River of Dreams was an improvement...

@ne1down2 He may not have had a choice. Many TV shows insist on lip syncing. They may not have the gear or technicians for a live performance of a rock song, unless it's just a performer on piano or guitar. It's not easy to do a live mix of several guitars, drums, keyboard(s), bass and vocals.

yes its obviously recorded but knowing billy he wouldnt have willingly lip sunk (sank, synced whatever). the tech producers must have made him do that. i think theres a video somewhere on youtube where he messes up on piano man.

dont be mad a billy joel! a lot of bands had to do this in the day because of technical things where they were not able to perform it live
