  • Doc is truly amazing and no one can beat him for longevity except maybe Ferguson. I would not call him a great improviser, have heard him play the same "improvised" solos on different performances of the same tunes. If you want to know who Doc is all about, listen to Harry James. He is a product of the golden days of the big bands and is still around. Only through very hard sustained work. Doc can be difficult to work with also.

  • Doc is playing that song so forcefully, that fluegelhorn sounds more like a trumpet

  • @HughJardahn thats because he's a perfectionist and with good reason. Best tone ever

  • There is a better one then this I had it on VHS. IT was with his real band and I taped it off some TV show. I think it was a show with comedy in the 80s

  • This was during his funk-fusiion Xebron days - the sound really is due to the amplifications and excessive reverb - nor Doc himself.

  • Go to any concert of many modern trumpeters and you will hear the same licks over the performances of the same tunes night to night.. Even study Clifford Borwn transcriptins and Charlie Parker you will see a lot of the same licks. There is a difference between an improvisor and a solist....according to Aebersold.

  • @DancingSpiderman maybe thats what he wanted it to sound like...

  • What song was he playing?

  • @HughJardahn I agree that Doc really has never been known for great jazz chops like Freddie or Dizzy, however, I was really surprised when I watched some early footage fo Doc here on Youtube where he was playying some straight up jazz and he really sounded good. I think he just decided to go down another path of music which proved to be more profitable for his efforts

  • @nandeyanen4212 --me soooo horny

  • HughJardahn hit is on the head...Not the greatest improvisor...but and amazing showman and a great trumpeter period!!!! Have talked with Doc several times, he is the first to tell you he is not a jazz musician...HOWEVER, IF HE HAD WANTED TO BE, AS CT SAID HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A BAD MAN!!!!!!!

  • 最高!ジャンルを超えてTrumpetの限界を突き詰めている人だから。
