Abandoned baby swifts should generally be left alone, as their mother's can often find them. I was shown this one in a shoe box after a boy rescued it from a town balcony. I was left with no choice but to try and do the best I could. Feeding swifts can be a problem. You can be sure of endangering their well-being if you feed them anything other than fresh insects. Alternatively, freeze-dried insect food is available on-line from specialist suppliers.
Swifts live, and even sleep on the wing, only coming down to nest. They are the "jet fighters" of the bird world and need to be 100% fit to perform the amazing manoeuvres they are capable of. I hope I did a good job. I watched this little guy fly overhead on his leaving day. After 34 days of constant care and feeding and never leaving his side, seeing him take to the skies was like walking home after watching the best movie ever!
well done sir/madam...
