I have never understood why most people only know Dan from the radio hits. His best songs were the more obscure ones, which of course, every Dan Fan knows. Would love a live version of Dan and Emilou Harris singing "Only the Heart May Know." He had me with "To the Morning", the first of his songs I'd heard playing on our little radio station in PA. (1974?) Had to call the station and ask who that brilliant guy was and then rushed out to buy "Homefree". I loved his voice when he was more of a soprano and even more when his voice changed to alto (obviously I don't know musical terms). Aren't all of us you love him so glad he never bought into the pop culture MTV world? His voice, melodies, lyrics seemed to flow out of heartfelt wisdom and from the depths of a mysterious soul in which he could reach into our own souls and enrich them. "The Earth Mother and all her Creatures need hope these days." (DF) He certainly has given me that and oh so much more. Anyone who has not yet heard "Don't Lose Heart" should look for it here.

  • Have not got Greetings from the West DVD simply because it doesn't play over here. Would LOVE to see the whole show at my leisure. However, now that we have a new DVD player, I wonder.........

  • @Sandandthefoam I see that you live in the UK. You can buy the DVD at this site: Amazon.com. It is really inexpensive. You can find one for around six US dollars with three dollars in shipping. I have no idea how that would exchange into Euros but it is the price of a gallon of milk and a two litter bottle of Pepsi here. You can also still get a VHS tape of it on Amazon.com. I am very happy to see that he is loved in the UK too. Would you mind telling me where you live. to be con't.

  • @Sandandthefoam con't from below. We live in Pennsylvania. I lived in Durango, Colorado for 8 years and Dan's ranch was very close to our house. I did see him live once. He opened at the Buffalo Bills (Buffalo, NY) Stadium for the Eagles. Well "our" Dan's birthday is this coming Mon. He was just one month younger than I. I can easily see why Dan loved Kahil Gibran. They were like spirits, weren't they? One used words and the other lyrics and music. The DVD is wonderful.

  • I don't think any other male singer songwriter has touched me as deeply as Dan. A little known song "Don't Lose Heart" is an example of how he can share even deep despair and feeling ofhope while in despair. There is no emotion in humankind that Dan couldn't put into a song and the listener thinks, "ah, yes, he's felt it too."

  • I plan to have a Dan day on my Facebook tomorrow in hopes that I can enlighten people. It is, of course, the anniversary of the death. I sent "Don't Lose Heart" to a friend with cancer and she wrote back saying she spent hours on Youtube listening to his song. She only knew him from the radio.

  • My favorite songs on "Greeting from the West" are his acoustic numbers. Being at that show in '93 must have been the most incredible experience. Must say I do love his final number on the DVD, "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler." I can see his face right now, his huge brimming smile and his joy in sharing his music knowing how much it meant to his fans.

  • This is one of my favorite Dan songs. I agree that Dan's best songs were not the ones played on the radio. And I also agree that one of the reasons I've loved Dan so much over the years was that he never went the "rock star" route and always held true to his commitment to honor mother earth. RIP Dan, you are so very missed!

  • I love this concert, have the dvd. He is amazing to me still!! Even tho I loved his music, this was the first song that I realized Dan was singing my life! It started my DanFanship in full force! So many years later, he remains my hero!

    Thank you for this posting.

    We miss you, dear Dan...

  • LOVE YA DAN. YOU ARE STILL THE GREATEST.

  • By far and wide the best singer and song writer that ever lived. Although he died early, he did get to see the God that gave him his gifts.

  • great video and sound.. thank you for sharing this with us, I love Dan Fogelberg... he left us too soon, at 55. ♥

  • hey babe, I KNOW THEM ALLLLL~~~~~~~~~~~HE WAS A GENIOUS!!!!! his beautiful voice will live on forever~~~~~~in my heart was ya'll's!!!!!

  • I was in love with Dan and his music from the time I was 12 years old...not only did he kick ASS on guitar and vocals but he was such a great keyboard player too. The world lost such an amazing and gifted songwriter and recording artist when he died. His music is treasured, and we are so lucky that we were blessed to have Dan's artistic vision and activism for the time that we had him...he will never be forgotten. (And yes, some of his non-radio recordings were his BEST!! ) <3

  • How is it possible that it's been two years? It doesn't seem real...I miss him...
