About the Event:
Dr O'Connor will outline his vision for Europe's energy future and an EU-wide network that will harness offshore wind and allow countries to share energy across borders. Dr O'Connor has been a passionate advocate of the offshore supergrid project for many years and
in his speech he will outline concept in detail and the progress of the project thusfar.
About the Speaker:
Dr O'Connor is one of Ireland's most successful and respected entrepreneurs. His vision and leadership in the energy field has been recognised across the globe. He recently received the first ever leadership award at the the Ernst & Young Global Renewable Energy Awards and in 2003 was named world energy policy leader by Scientific American Magazine.
In 2008 he founded Mainstream Renewable Power to develop, build and operate renewable energy plants in collaboration with strategic partners. The company employs over 90 highly experienced staff and has offices in Berlin, Cape Town, Chicago, Dublin, London, Santiago and Toronto. Previous to this he was founder and CEO with Airtricity from 1997 until January 2008 when the company was sold to E.ON and Scottish and Southern Energy for approximately €2 billion.
His vast experience in the energy business is further evidenced by his successful tenure as CEO of Bord na Mona between 1987 and 1996 and in several managerial positions with the ESB before this.
He holds a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering (1970) and a Masters in Industrial Engineering (1976) both from University College Dublin and has a doctorate in Business Administration from the International Management Centres, Europe
