Both my wife and I grew up on farms in the midwest. "Farm of Yesterday' is about the farm I grew up on. "Bottomland" is about the farm my wife grew up on. Up north they called it rental, down south they called it what it was Sharecropping. When the crop came in on that farm the owner of the farm was right there to make sure of his share of the crop yield. Eventually my wife's dad bought his won farm, that's when my bride moved to MN.
