As a promotion for the Muskogee Chamber of Commerce, the audience at the Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame Concert and Induction Ceremony sang a verse of "Okie from Muskogee" by Merle Haggard and Eddie Burris. 2009 is the 40th anniversary of the song's first success. Initially recorded as a demo in the dressing room of the Muskogee Civic Center before a Merle Haggard performance, once Merle sent the demo to his label, they released that as the single. The other well-known live version was recorded in the same building at a later Merle Haggard concert that was recorded and release as the live Okie from Muskogee album.
