The Tablelands Gros Morne National Park, 360 degree panorama

Located on Newfoundland's west coast,the Tablelands is of my very favourite places on in the world. It's is a section of the earth's mantle that was pushed to the surface through plate tectonic collision and made of peridotite, a rock that lacks the nutrients to support most plant life, so the landscape there has an alien sort of feel and appearance. The rock is brown and rough, with veins of beautiful green serpentine.

This video was taken in June of 2007, and is on the far side of the top, just before the cliffs head down to Trout River Pond, so you can see more varied mountains in the distance. When you're in the middle of the Tablelands, the barren section which makes up about 2/3 of this video surrounds you completely, making a compass an essential tool, especially in the fog.

Well, the common hike only goes to the bottom. This is up on top, at the back, overlooking Trout River Pond. If you're going to go up top, make sure to bring a compass because as you can see, it's very easy to lose your sense of direction.

I scaled the cliffs an feared for my life at some point.. Shortly after reaching summit the clouds rolled in. Had to make my way down in low visibility. Took a long time but felt like a real adventure. Gros Morne is Awesome. Thanks for posting.

Not much to see up there, eh? Made it up there once, took two trys. The path they built doesnt take you anywhere. The first time, I tried scaling those cliffs. 89 degrees is as close to vertical as I ever want to try.
