Coarse and vulgar compared to Rupert Egerton-Smith.
Oh sure, Grante plays the notes brilliantly, but there's no joy or lyricism in it. It's just expert piano-playing.
I'm sorry, but I just don't admire Grante's piano tone.

Grante appears to not be afraid to bend the tempo just enough to allow the right expression in, and has a masterful control over crescendo/ diminuendo. This is the best version of Islamey I have yet heard.He is a fantastic pianist.

The perfect choice for the tempo, the precision, it's amazing. He made Islamey look like more than a showpiece.

This is so precise - but equally so musical. Really excellent. Not the wildest, fastest performance but for me absolutely perfect

That is funny how this pianist appears again on youtube. He was on a jury of a small, local competition in Miami which I won with the Liszt 1st concerto in a junior competition. I was age 13, and he loved my rendition of it at the time! But this is the first time I have actually heard him play!

He is very musical. I have heard other recordings of Islamey but this one is just right, the technical and musical aspects and tempo all seem to be in exactly the right place. He is very relaxed and controlled.
