I'd stick with early Tom Baker to start with. This is where the archetypal Doctor comes from (and you could argue that Sarah Jane is the archetypal companion). There was a surge of good story after good story for the first few Tom Baker seasons. I don't think it's ever been bettered since that era (new series included).

Most people say that the best troughton serial is tomb of the cybermen but my personal favourite from the troughton era is the mind robber. It's on dailymotion in ten minute parts. The war games is also very good.

Are the originals not called seasons? I always thought it was like they called the 2005 restart the "series'" so that we could differentiate between the seasons and the series'?
Just wondering, I could easily be wrong :)

have to say any tom baker is good but then you not going to get tosee every ep of old doctor as the first one are ether gone or rare than a rare thing
