America's first African-American Certified Executive Pastry Chef (CEPC), Alvin Clark, Sr., was born in Dallas, TX in 1938. Alvin struggled with reading and writing, so he memorized more than 600 recipes during his three-year baking apprenticeship. Alvin moved to Indianapolis in 1969 where he has achieved the majority of his awards and recognitions. He has worked in some of the country's finest hotels, bake shops, and private clubs. He's prepared pastries and cuisines for celebrities such as Prince, Natalie Cole, Bill Cosby, Teena Marie, Stevie Wonder, and others before joining Levy Restaurants at Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
Blue, it's so good to finally see you recognized for all you have accomplished. You truly are one of Indianapolis' treasures. Hope to see you again soon, and catch up. It's been far too long.
