Miata with sprint car wing :) yup thats more than $500, Datsun 240's/Nissan Z Ive seen those completely rusted with no engine and trans go for more than $500 because they are popular to rebuild, same with camaros and mustangs

Well do it then. Why wait? Check out the Lemons and Chumpcar sites, find a race in your area, hook up with a team or put your own car and team together and do it. If you need any help there are many of us who would be happy to coach you along and get you ready.

Even with parting out a car, many of these aren;t $500 cars... It's ruining the spirit of the event. A lot of these things have custom paint jobs worth more than $500 easy. Unless it doesn't count. But I thought it was only safety equipment that wasn't included in the price.

Yes you are correct. It has become even more so now. I just got home from a Lemons race last weekend. Don't get me wrong, I had lots of fun, love to race, but many if not most of the cars out there are very thinly disguised race cars. They use many ways to justify the cost of the cars, but no one actually believes it. There is nothing out there that is close to $500. The car next to us was using one part, an $800 wavetrac diff, that far exceeded the $500.

Look on the internet for 24 hour of Lemons and at the Chump car site. I have done both and had a blast at each. Build a car or join an existing team. Just do it, you will be happy you did.
