A very dignified and beautiful singer. I think she needs and deserves more appreciation in this modern world of histrionic-singers.
Thanks for putting up...diana

@Coucoutchicou ...What you say is completely right. I just love Janet's and Victoria de los Angeles interpretations. Though if I really had to choose, I'd have to say it would be Victoria de los Angeles, It's just so exquisitely touching - absolutely beautiful.......

Better than Elvis!

I am 22 and this is the first singer of this style that I have ever loved. She truly takes me away to another place.

A friend of mine told me that many years ago he hid in a bush at Glyndebourne and started singing and that picnickers thought it was Janet Baker singing! Well I had to laugh. She would have loved that story too I'm quite sure.......Wonderful voice!

STUNNING!
Possibly the best rendering together with that of Victoria de los Angeles...I just can't understand why these 2 versions show up in the You-Tube list way behind those of Nana Mouskouri, Joan Baez... etc. I don't mean to criticize the latter two but they are just not in the same class as Janet Baker or Victoria de los Angeles.

being French, i was a afraid to hear Dame Janet Baker, well known to translate any type of operas in his mother language..(english..), here singing in French..
WELL iit is amazing how this wonderfull artist sounds french here!..she absolutly pronounces the 'd' and 't' as a french would do.. corretc 'r'.. and no incorrect diphtongues!....
plus, her voice is magic, deep, sensual and the phrasing is very stylish like anything she sings....
Bravo .. bravo.. bravo....
tout est beau!..
