Working backwards is a very useful approach in the realm of problem solving.
This is an almost complete solution to the 6-letter word riddle. The problem is as follows:
What common English word is 6 different letters long, and each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word ... from 6 letters all the way down to a single remaining letter?

  • It reminds me of the times when I was in school and had riddles in English, make number 4 into a plant using only 3 steps,

    (1) 4, (2) IV, (3)Ivy; a type of plant. Your way of showing and allowing the person to understand the puzzle is better. If our teacher had a computer back then, I'd probably be able to spell better ;)
