This video was produced from a sequence of still frame images of the upper section of the Belcher Glacier on Devon Island, Nunavut, Canada. The goal of this time lapse project is to monitor the evolution of the surface hydrology on the glacier. The video starts on May 1, 2007 and shows the progression of snow melt and the development of several interconnected ponds on the surface of the glacier until August 5, 2007.
The Belcher Glacier is the focus of the Canadian IPY: GLACIODYN Project. For more information, please visit: http://people.uleth.ca/~sarah.boon/IPY_page/index.html
The sequence starts on May 1, 2007, and ends on Aug. 5, 2007 - so it spans the majority of the summer melt season. There are 4 images per day: 12am, 6am, 12pm, and 6pm.
