Probably Willie's most controversial song because of the lyrics, this is from the 1976 album featured in the first photo of the video.

  • this performance is actually from 1966. Recorded live in Fort Worth, TX and the legendary Panther Hall. the album was re-released in '76 with a different cover to capitalize on Willie's new found mainstream success. the original cover shows a clean-shaven, pompadour sporting Willie playing a Fender Jaguar electric guitar.

  • @artfromtex Good info to have, friend, I wasn't aware of that.

  • Nothin' like a good ol' Murder Ballad!! I have it on an old eight track so I've heard it since I was a kid.

  • @carlbesola LOL! There really can't be all that many "Murder Ballads" around!!

  • @carlbesola Hmmm How about Mack the knife and Screamin Lord Sutch's epic Jack the Ripper.... ?? LOL ... don't think I want to dwell on it too much!!!

  • I just LOVE Willie, Phil...went to Highwaymen Concert..backstage pass..got Waylon's autograph..had my pic with Wille..arms around each other..oh my..saw Johnny and Kris ..but they werent too approachable..great song..more Willie..more Phil :)) !!Thnx!

  • Porter Wagoneer did this song long before people knew who Willie was . Still a god song by a liveing legend .

  • My Mom Loved to play this on an old album she had Live From Panther Hall Ball Room Ft Worth I still pull it out to play time to time

  • My first ever Willie Nelson song... I was hooked... love the man singing!

  • @lettermen1 check out "country death song by violent femmes" demented death song

  • @lettermen1 "Veil of White Lace" comes to mind. I think Mel Tillis had the best known recording of it. Very disturbing.

  • This is so old... but still fab!

  • Well, let's see, there is the Kingston trio's "Tom Dooley", Tom Jones' "Delilah" Lefty Frizzell's "The Long Black Veil", etc. Ther are quite a few others that I can't think of just now.
