The Freedom to be Sinclair Broadcasting.

This was yet another video that I probably wouldn't have cared about or done a video over, similar to the previous one..that is until I was suggested to do one on it.

Danielle Kayser, an internet friend of mine who is also @missdani84 from Twitter asked me to do a video on this because of how this video could affect where she lives.

Thank you, Ms. Kayser for that request! :) And if u have one of your own, you know how to get it to me. And it won't cost you the following dollar amount either:

$385 Million.

Just picture that. Most of us could only dream of possibly being able to amass $385 million in our lifetimes. I definitely dream about it every single day. But that is what the Sinclair price tag was for 8 television stations that it bought from Freedom Communications.

That's obviously close to $400 million.

Freedom Communications was previously in control of 8 broadcast television stations across the country including two sister outlets that were broadcasting to one designated market area.

The stations are:

WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida a CBS affiliate on channel 12.

WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan a CBS affiliate on channel 3 with the CW on a digital subchannel 3.2.

WRGB-TV, a CBS affiliate on channel 6 in Albany, New York. Plus its sister WCWN-TV channel 15--the CW affiliate.

WTVC-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee channel 9--the ABC affiliate.

WLAJ-TV in Lansing, Michigan, the ABC affiliate on channel 53 with the CW on digital subchannel 53.2

KTVL-TV in Medford, Oregon which is CBS channel 10 with the CW on digital subchannel 13.2

and KFDM-TV in Beaumont, Texas, their CBS affiliate on channel 6 with the CW on their digital subchannel 6.2.

Danielle sent me the video suggestion because of how it affects Albany. In fact, it affects Albany, New York more than it does any other market since they're buying two stations there.

Also, as Danielle told me, Sinclair is notorious for the majority of their stations being affiliate with the News Corp duo of Fox and MyNetwork TV. MyNet is Fox's lil sister.

Over half of their stations are affiliated with either Fox or MyNet. They've bought mainly CBS and ABC affiliates. This has reason for many to think that some (or at least one) could go either Fox or MyNet.

Another thing that may make a lotta difference--the fact that the affiliates are CBS/ABC. CBS and ABC affiliates all have news crews. If they feel like they want to cut costs, they can easily change affiliates to Fox or MyNet since a lotta Fox stations don't have news crews. Virtually no MyNet stations have news crews except for those in major cities.

Next thing you know, News Corp. themselves will buy out Sinclair and those Fox/MyNet stations will transition into O&Os. Hey, it might as well happpen. LOL :)

  • Several mistakes on your post:

WWMT-TV in Grand Rapids, Michigan is actually on channel 3 with the CW on a digital subchannel 3.2

KTVL-TV in Medford, Oregon's actual CW is on digital subchannel 10.2
