  • lost one. Just 4-5 years ago after found some sketches James Strauss made this version

  • This is NOT a lost Tchaikovsky concerto. This is an outright fraud! All James Strauss has done has used Tchaikovsky's student 'Largo and Allegro' for two flutes and orchestra for the outer movements of this work, composed a cadenza, and orchestrated Tchaikovsky's famous piano piece 'Chant sans paroles' Op.2 no.3 for the slow movement.

If you want to hear Tchaikovsky's ORIGINAL 1863-4 version of this piece, it is here on YouTube. Just search for 'Tchaikovsky Largo and Allegro'.

  • Tchaikovsky HIMSELF played the flute very well. For this reason his flute solos may challenge flutists, but not this one!

  • Tchaik never wrote a flute concerto...

  • I do not really think that Tchaikovsky, as the great composer he was, could have written such a poor and weak music for taffanel who was the best french flautist of his time. The concert seems interesting some times, a little and smooth passage supposedly taken from the last movement of the pathetique symphony. Tchaikovsky was a great orchestrater and symphonist and do not consider as true concerto. the true Tchaikovsky handwritten papers for this concerto had only a few bars.

  • around 4:30 it sounds like the finale from Tchaikovsky's Symphonie Pathetique

I love that piece, and this is gorgeous.

  • wow. i finally found a recording of the "lost concerto". how exciting!!

it's so beautiful. i hope one day i can play it myself. <3

  • James Strauss is also an amazing virtuouso flutist. I have talked with him about his discovery. He was a student of Rampal, Who inspired James to search for this lost fllute concerto. He found hints here and there and after travelling and searching and following leads, was able to reconstruct it. His research along with his vast knowledge of Tchaikovsky and his works lead to this amazing discovery and we thank him! You can learn more about James by reading wikipedia. He also has his own website.

  • Is this his lostconcerto or some transcription?
