About Cole Phelps (From lanoire.wikia.com):
Cole joined the United States Marine Corps or USMC for short in 1938 when he was 18. He fought at the Battle of Okinawa where he won the Silver Star in 1945. At Okinawa, he is said to have done things he isn't proud of. Following the war, he was honorably discharged from the Corps and returned State side and joined the LAPD probably shortly after.
Working for the LAPD, Phelps discovered that Los Angeles was not what it seemed to be. It was a city full of crime and corruption, and Phelps now has to fight these things, since he is one of the few people that still believes in justice. He starts as regular beat officer, but the department quickly note that he has talent as an investigator and promote him to Detective, dealing with traffic, arson, vice and homicide offenses, tussling with new partners each time. Cole then started to work on the most notorious crimes in the city, by finding evidence at the crime scene and interrogating suspects, witnesses or another person related to the case. Using his skills, Phelps worked on all kinds of cases, ranging from solving murders to fighting the drug trade in the city. As he solved more crimes, Cole started to learn more about the criminal underworld of Los Angeles and how close many of his colleagues and superiors were to it. Although the whole enterprise is mired in corruption, Phelps keeps his dignity and continue to clean the city's drug trafficking, violence and corruption, things that plagued the City of Angels.
