@babasyzygy it does grow faster due to the unlimited supply of oxygen. It would be more appropriate to have a glass wall, however the shatter potential would be a factor, not to mention the dangers from flashover and backdraft as the smoke builds up. it is still a great demonstration in regards to dorm room fire safety.
Interesting! I do have to wonder how much having a lot more oxygen flow from the open fourth wall affects the speed of the fire growth, but I bet by not more than 30%.
I'd have loved to see it through a glass-paned wall, but that probably would have been a much bigger hazard, and harder to see (and access) in the later stages.
It's simple ladies and gentlemen, get a smoke detector like the man said... and be cautious.. Leading cause un-attended cooking..
