The American Kennel Club was formed for the protection and advancement of purebred dogs. The A.K.C have adopted bylaws, rules and regulations to govern S.P.O Field Trials.
S.P.O Field Trial consists of four classes
13" Males
15" Males
13" Females
15" Females
Each class consists of packs that are randomly drawn. Packs can not exceed more than seven dogs. The winners pack can contain nine dogs or less.
The Beagle is to find game, to pursue it in an energetic and decisive manner and to show determination to account for it. Two judges evaluate the performance of each hound. Hounds are judged upon the following qualities, searching ability, pursuing ability, accuracy in trailing, proper use of voice, endurance, adaptability, patience, determination, independence and cooperation.
Faulty actions include quitting, backtracking, ghost trailing, pottering, babbling, swinging, skirting, leaving checks, running mute, tighness of mouth, racing, running hit or miss, lack of independence, and bounding off.
After the judges make a final decision, hounds are awarded rosettes or ribbons. Trophies are optional. Hounds also accumulate championship points according to how they place.
First prize-Blue Rosette-1 point for each starter.
Second prize-Red Rosette-1/2 point for each starter.
Third prize-Yellow Rosette-1/3 point for each starter
Fourth prize-White Rosette-1/4 point for each starter
