@KaterinaJade Except that Spain is in SOUTHERN Europe, where most people have olive/tan skin and darker features (Look at all the background characters in Spain in this movie, such as the soldiers or sailors). I myself an a Spaniard, and I am not white, thank you. It had nothing to do with the "Natives", by the way, because Roman-era paintings clearly show Spaniards with the features everyone thinks of as "Latino".

This is a conversation I believe happened between the casting directors
Casting Director #1: So the first part of the movie takes place in Spain, right? So why don’t we hire an entirely British and American cast to play the Spaniards?
Casting Director #2: Genius!
Casting Director #1: Great. And then, when the Spaniards arrive on El Dorado, a place specifically stated to be far away from Spain, then we’ll bring in the Spanish actors!!
