Watch In High Definition A Norfolk Southern container train comes to a stop on Horseshoe Curve July 13 2009. I edited 3 minutes of video out of this clip to make this fit on You Tube.
Based on the rather sudden stop and the grade I would say the train "went into emergency". Perhaps a gladhand connection between two cars came loose and dumped all the brake air pressure forcing the train to an uncommanded stop.
Amazing catch - I love the weather, the lighting, and the sound of the 70M-2 spooling up as it got moving again. I'm having flashbacks to when the rear helpers of a train stopped right in front of me on Horseshoe back in August '94, except you were fortunate enough to catch a similar incident in high def! Unless you cut out an entire train, it doesn't appear to me that the missing 3 minutes affected the overall story at all.
Awesome video. 5*****

@ChamplainDivision Could be or the engineer could have dumped the air. Thank you for watching.

@FastFlyingVirginian Thank you for the kind comments. The missing parts were just the boom truck backing up then returning. Glad you enjoyed the vid.
