Tiny, hairless, and shivering in the middle of the sidewalk. I look for the nest but the wind must have torn it apart. Do I have a choice? I scoop up the baby bird, carry it home, feed it mashed catfood with water, return to the site to look again for the nest -- and there's a second one! shivering, hairless, twisted and bloody from the fall, but still moving. I scoop it up. Now I have 2 baby birds who'll be lucky if they survive the night. Or maybe i'm the lucky one if i get any sleep.

  • I was really touched when they responded to your eyedropper. Surprisingly moving.

At least you were able to give them some comfort. You're very kind and good-hearted.

  • @PaulRayIsMe it's important that people know this information if they come into a similar situation.

  • it's so cute how you care about the little birds, haha.

even though birds scare me, it's still so sad to see them so helpless :(

  • just keep them warm and fed. I don't know how well they will digest the catfood, I guess it could work. don't let the cat get a hold of the birds. keep us updated on the birds.

  • :-)

  • @PaulRayIsMe i'll call back in a day or two and see if they are still alive. Even if they are though, i feel bad for having separated them from their mother. I can only hope the message I posted at the end of this video will help in the scheme of things.

  • @Plomomedia Ah well... At least you tried. Will the shelter care for them, or put them down? I know there's no shortage of urban birds, but I can't help feeling a little sad.

  • @PaulRayIsMe it's too late, i didnt receive that phone message until i got back from taking them to the animal shelter. yes, apparently birds have lousy smell and handling them will not cause the mother to reject them - urban myth. the basket idea though would probably hae been the best way to go. :(

  • @Plomomedia Is it too late to place the chicks now?

I was told, as a kid, that handling baby birds would cause the mother to reject them. I guess I was told wrong. The basket trick would never have occurred to me.

  • @PaulRayIsMe I'm afraid i may have done the wrong thing by taking him to a wildlife rehabiliation clinic. an expert called me back and strongly suggested I put the birds in a basket, hang the basket from the tree where I think they fell from. The mother bird, she said, is most definitely looking for her babies right now and will find them in the tree and continue caring for them.
