無良的士,偷按咪表,機場去佐敦收多50元. Hong Kong Taxi Rip Off (in Cantonese)

一對夫婦搭的士由香港機場返佐敦，竟遭索價292元，比正常收費約240元，多出超過50元！司機被發現做手腳，一路偷按令咪錶狂跳，遭踢爆後又詐傻扮懵，竟拍打和辱駡咪­錶卸責！現將此無良司機惡行公諸於眾，望大家警惕！
This footage was given to me from a couple who lives in Hong Kong. They got into a taxi at the Hong Kong International Airport travelling to Novotel in Nathan Road, Jordan, Kowloon at 7:45am on 16-Apr-2011. The taxi fare came to $292 which normally would be $240 max. The lady challenged the fare and he saw the man taking video with his iPhone. He then played dumb and blamed the taxi meter, finally accepted $240.

Other tricks he has been up to:

(1) The Airport taxi rank supervisor handed all passengers a card with the taxi's registration no. and a phone no. to complain if service is not satisfactory. The taxi concerned is KZ-5894. Within minutes into the trip, the taxi driver asked for that card and pocketed it. (TO STOP PEOPLE COMPLAINING).

(2) The male passenger saw him pressing the "Extra" button on the lower right hand corner of the taxi meter, adding $1 on every press. He did it skilfully by resting his left hand on the steering column gear stick. Then extending his little finger over the button and press it every now and then. An occasional jump of $1 is not very glaring. But he got greedy and bumped it up from $19 to $24 in one go that caught the man's eye.

(3) The Taxi Driver's ID card which should be prominently display on top the dashboard has "fallen" flat so his name could not be seen.

(4) The taxi's registration number which should be prominently displayed on the inside of the passenger door was missing.

(5) When he arrived at the hotel, he purposed parked somewhere away from the hotel, fearful of the hotel boys hearing about the argument or act as eye witness.

Smarten up -- if you notice any of the tricks above, challenge the taxi driver IMMEDIATELY. If he does not take any notice, you should ring the police on 999. Take a photo of the taxi driver and note down the registration number is always useful. Start recording video would also provide very powerful evidence for your complaint.

I was once cheated by a taxi driver in HK, on the way from Airport to Macau Sheung Wan Ferry Terminal. I was terribly tired and didn't realize the driver didn't set back the meter to the start again so I went with the previous customer fare still on. Felt so stupid. It was 6 years ago.
