@Shargrailar In the 1880's there was a terrible drought in TX. Congress authorized $10K of relief. President Grover Cleveland vetoed it on the basis that he didn't think that Constitution authorized gov to do that. So what happened? The American people sent $100K to relieve the people of TX. In 1906 a terrible earthquake hit San Francisco. No gov sent any money at all, but many $1000s were sent as relief. Traditionally non-gov, non-profits orgs handled charity & did a far better job than gov.

@whoo689: Sweden has a 52% income tax... and look where it took them. Sweden has the worst economy growth in Europe aside from Greece. Let's face it, government projects don't usually create businesses nor any actual economic growth. In the end, the private sector is the source of growth, not the government.
