@djsmurfie obviously it is an english folk song but like all great songs there is something universal in the song it could be set in any fishing port

@jeroendevries It's quite obviously English, Jesus Christ listen to the name of the ports in the song. Grimsby, for example, was a major fishing port in the later 19th and early 20th century.

@neilhosey They sang all sorts - everyone seems to think that every song the Dubliners sang is Irish, that isn't the case. Many, infact, a hell of a lot of them are either Scottish or English in origin.

Remember seeing these guys a couple of times in concert when I was a lad and this song has always struck a chord with me. Folk at its best!
