  • hey fishtanksandponds where do u live in the UK? (south)

  • @demolition000 I live in the north west (Lancashire) but I visit Cornwall on a regular basis where most of the native marine fish are filmed.

  • so were these wild caught?? and wat u feed them???

  • Yes these are wild caught and they ate the copepods that came in with the weed and rocks, we only kept them for a few days before releasing them back where we found them.

Long term captivity is easily possible if the tank is fairly natural and contains a population of copepods. They can also learn to accept some frozen marine fishfood.

  • very nice looking fish, :D man your one lucky guy to see all these types of fish ^^

  • They are all surprisingly common in rockpools, we could get a haul like this within just a few hours at low tide, it's just a case of knowing where to look.

    Great fun too :-)

  • @fishtanksandponds very nice mate :D i live in cambridge ^^

  • OMG that is awesome

  • Yes these are very easy to keep in a long term perspective. The easiest way is to have plenty of macro algea that has a very dense growth for pods to live in, it also makes it easy for the pipefish to hunt rather than on open bottoms. And as already mentioned they can learn to accept the frozen food, but that also requires more work as they are slow and other inhabitants snatch their food with ease.

They seem to prefer big branching macro algea in my tank.

Congrats on the beautiful pipefish :)

  • See Them All The Time Here In Seaweed And That There RockSolid Aswell(:

    Guernsey Btw:D

  • I wish i can see something like these here in Dubai :)
