I love this clip of Leonard playing the simply beautiful 'The Window' to his friends - their faces say it all! From The Song of Leonard Cohen (1979)

  • This clip is amazing. One of my own personal favourites. All Cohen's songs are intimate confessions, this one is psalmic and breathtakingly beautiful.

Who is the mysterious lady that cannot take her eyes of Leonard?

  • The gentleman is Leonard's friend and mentor, the Canadian poet Irving Layton.

  • Absolutely beautiful ,a tear has just dripped on to my keyboard. Thanks for posting.

  • Such a philosophic song...metaphysically existential. Yet, maybe that is the only kind of metaphysics...an existentially based one!

  • We must climb on our tears, and be silent...

  • @96Heidi The comment is ironic, so no.

  • @ashburnhouse You tell me whether Leonard was a "student" of Layton's: Cohen once said of Layton, "I taught him how to dress - he taught me how to live forever!"

  • The young lady is almost certainly Anna Pottier, Irving Layton's fifth and last wife - 48 years his junior.

  • Que parecido a Alfredo Zitarroza.

  • Irving Layton's gesture at 2:02 when he hears the word Jerusalem. Great.

  • @deadlesblue

yeah, that woman wants to shag Len all over, deffo.

  • sin duda, para mi la mejor, la mas profunda del grande leonard cohen
