Yes. It is a shame that the words inscribed are not in traditional text. Traditional text looks a lot more artistic and goes a lot better with traditional architecture. I believe that anything built in a traditional way should in fact have the traditional text to make it look more authentic.

But for sure it is a mistake to present simplfied Chinese words and traditional Chinese words together.

It's not a shame, both Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese are valid forms of written Chinese, one is not better than the other. The gate is designed by the Beijing Research Institute of Ancient Architecture as a project of friendship between Beijing and Ottawa (capital cities). This gate will rejuvenate the Ottawa asian heritage scene and adds livelihood to the area.
If the gateway is supposedly to be a landmark, shouldn't it be inscribed in proper traditional Chinese words? It is a shame.
