A video response to renetto's response to periurban - i.e. what other companies are looking to do to advance the video sharing community. Also, is YouTube best positioned to address the future.

  • great video.

  • Thanks! This is a very interesting topic, and I would love to see the YouTube powers-that-be get involved in the discussion.

  • good video... nice to see you are not entering into any hype talk. Personally i would like to see the changes happen here on YT.

  • I think the peer-to-peer idea has a lot of flaws, and that YouTube (through Google) has all the pieces available, or in development, to make YouTube (or a YouTube Commerce edition) the platform for video sharing e-commerce. I would like to see more user input on YouTube, but I guess we'll have to take baby steps. Thanks for the comment!

  • Been there, done all of that Chuck, but, you know a bit more now about the project than you did when you made this, what you might not know is what we've all done to try to make things work with this site.

  • If they worked, the features are great! The only two changes I would make are more categories under the video tab area and the ability to choose your thumb image for your videos.

  • In Denmark (Northern Europe) an ISP that blocked peer to peer would not survive. After all they live from users that pay for the band width. Is this different in the US? As I see it the big problem of peer to peer is that nobody want to download and install a client.

  • Just because Google has the ability to maintain YouTube & its upgrades doesn't mean they will (obviously - look at the site, it's a mess).. they're currently out $1billion & I guarantee they're focusing on recouping that more than listening to the needs of users. Another perfect example of site inefficiency: MySpace

  • i knew that i could rely you to come up with an intelligent take on this subject. So far this whole thing as been very 'cloak and dagger'. No-one seems prepared to fully explain what the hell is going on! I agree that Youtube have the oppourtunity to take this by the horns and ride with it, and if these people dont get this idea up and running soon then someone else will.

    cheers :)
