I put together this guide on how to drift on Forza 3. I hope it is helpful for you. I haven't included much information about tuning cars because I wanted this guide to be focused on the theory behind actually drifting a car, not how to build a car. Also tuning a car is very complicated so would take a long time to explain.

And remember! Practice makes perfect! Drifting isn't something you can learn in a day, it can take a while.

FAQ:

Should I use a rear wheel drive (RWD) or all wheel drive (AWD) car?
You should use RWD. AWD isn't proper drifting because the front wheels give drive (even if you have the power 100% to the rear) so the technique for "drifting" AWD is very simplistic and is not accepted at true drifting. A lot of drifters will also look down on you for using AWD.

What is a good car to start with?
Any of the Nissan Silvias are a good car to try. The S-14 (K's) is probably the easiest to use. Other good cars are the Toyota Trueno (use low power with that, 260-280bhp is plenty), Mazda RX-7, or any of the Nissan Fairladys. The Nissan Skylines can also be good cars when converted to RWD.

Do I need to use a controller or a steering wheel?
You can use either. Most people (including me) use a controller simply because a good steering wheel costs a lot of money. If you use a steering wheel make sure it is one with force feedback. This will allow you to have better control over your steering angle so allow you to get a slightly cleaner drift and slightly more angle than a controller, but the difference is marginal.

Can you give me a lesson online?
Sorry, no. I made this guide to give people a place to start but I am not out to give people lessons, I don't have the time. However, some people in the Forza community have put together a drift school to teach newcomers so if you are looking for a tutor then check out this thread on the Forza site forums:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/4631181.aspx
There is also plenty of other help for you if you look around in the Drift Lounge section of the Forza forums.

Can you help tune/build my car?
I cannot build a car specifically for you, since I don't have the time and I don't give out freebies. But if you request it I can send you messages detailing how to build and tune a car yourself. Or if you prefer, I do make tunes which are available up on my storefront. I will tune cars that are requested often. You can find setups I have already made here:
http://forums.forzamotorsport.net/forums/thread/4351110.aspx

What gear do I need to be in?
For most corners you will be using 3rd gear. 2nd gear for sharp corners and 4th for very wide corners. Try using 3rd to start off and if that doesn't feel right try using 2nd or 4th, depending on the type of corner. Also, if you are on a corner that gets wider as you go through it you may need to shift up a gear mid-drift, which can be a bit tricky. Alternately, you may need to shift down a gear on corners that get tighter which means you will also need to slow down using the e-brake and/or foot brake.

How do I get the Benchmark track? (the track at 1:35)
It comes as free DLC with every new copy of the game (not just the limited edition). There should be a slip in the game case with a reclaim code which you use in the XBL marketplace to get it. If you are having trouble getting it then check the Forza site FAQ at: http://forzamotorsport.net/en-us/fm3_vip_lce_dlc.aspx
This track is also available for purchase from the XBL marketplace as normal for 400ms points as well if you did not get it in your copy of the game.

How do I use clutch?
You don't need to use clutch with drifting, plenty of drifters get by fine without it but if you want to learn it's pretty simple. All you have to do is remember to hold down clutch while using the e-brake to avoid stopping the spinning of the engine. You can also tap the clutch to initiate a drift or help push a bit more angle in a drift. This is called "clutch kick".

Jargon buster:

Countersteer - Turning the car into the slide, therefore the opposite way you want to turn. For example if you wish to drift around a corner turning right you would countersteer to the left.

Stalled drift - When you cut the drift short and regain full traction.

Fishtail - When the weight of the car shifts sideways unexpectantly and you spin out the opposite way to the drift. This usually occurs during transition between drifts.

"Dabbing" the throttle - to "dab" something means to press it for a short while. Longer than a tap but still generally less than a second.

P.S Thank's for all the positive feedback!
