The phrase "under God" is a recognition of God-given rights; the Founders believed that we had fundamental rights that were derived from a higher power or nature. Each American possesses these fundamental rights regardless of whether they came from God or nature. If these rights did not come from God/nature, then they would be produced by government, which could just as easily take away those rights. I'm fairly sure her mother didn't tell her that

@dgg1994 Hahaha. You're hilarious.
And shoving a bible down a child's throat and telling them they'll go to hell if they don't believe in the boogie man in the sky ISN'T brainwashing? You're an idiot...people like you shouldn't be allowed to procreate.

That's not even the most constitutionally controversial part of the Pledge.
You will find NOTHING in the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, or even the old Articles of Confederation that describes the USA as "one nation."
It's the United States not the United State of America. ("states" being 18th century speak for "nations")
If you want to know what the US is supposed to look like, as defined by the Constitution, look at the European Union--united in commerce & defense--NOTHING more.

one nation, indivisible
PART 5: For those who would argue that popular opinion should be the ultimate determining factor, let us remember that at one time popular opinion held that slavery was proper, that women shouldn’t have the right to vote, etc, etc.
Further, can you imagine that if alterations are allowed to continue at the current pace of approximately one every 30 years, that in 300 short years the POA will be barely recognizable from the original.
The POA should be returned to its original form.

PART 4: Personally, I cannot fathom why anyone ever thought immigrants who by and large had gone or were in the process of going through hell to become a citizen would need THAT reminder.
A year later the word “America” was added. This is commonly called redundancy.
Then of course in 1954, “under god” was added. Again, not a necessity. A National Historical Document such as the POA shouldn’t have had a single revision.
